K-12 Education
The mission of the Corning schools is to provide each student with educational skills and the knowledge necessary to become a lifelong learner and productive member of society. A pre-K through 12th grade school district, the students are educated in several buildings located in close proximity to each other. Pre-K special needs preschoolers through 6th graders feel at home in the recently renovated Elementary school. Beyond just the basics, young learners experience a world of opportunities including Spanish. This facility also boasts the Leathers playground, the baseball and softball fields as well as the tennis courts. The Anna Craft Building houses the 7th-8th grade junior high school on the same block as the Corning Activity Center, which is home to athletic and music endeavors. Across the street sits the Corning High School, with vocational agricultural buildings and greenhouse. Agreements with Southwestern Community College, Graceland University, Des Moines Area Community College and other area high schools provide upper level classes as well. Many of the Corning students graduate with college credits. A diverse selection of extracurricular activities adds to student resumes.
