Corning Municipal Utilities

During the last 70+ years of operation has strived to run a safe, high quality utility while serving our customers as top priority. Since CMU is locally owned, it has been able to offer some of the most competitive pricing in the region. Today, a kilowatt of electricity is sold just a ½ cent higher than it was first offered in 1935. CMU has worked hard to maintain its infrastructure. In 2003, CMU completed construction of a new 1.3 million gallon water treatment facility. The new facility is fed through interconnected pipelines from three different surface lakes. In 2006, CMU rebuilt the electric generating plant, installing two new diesel generators and switch gear. The standby electric plant is able to meet the full needs of the city. In 2007, CMU installed 14 miles of a 6” high pressure gas transmission line to meet the needs of new business.
